Purple is Dead!

PurpleVRS is dead, and it's their own fault!!!

The FCC ordered Purple to pay back $18MILLION dollars because of their own FRAUD! Purple has had many telemarketers and conference calls for many years, playing around with the rules because they think they're so smart. Sad that many deaf people feel bad for Purple, but really Purple did this to themselves! Their executive team ordered their employees to have conference calls EVERY DAY for hours and hours to discuss nothing and make it pointless! Their District Managers would spend many times wasting time on conference calls talking about nothing, introducing their own names again and again to make sure everyone is there when they already know everyone is there! The only reason for this is to pump up their minutes!

Did any of you see the Vlog about Maria and her experience in Datastar?? Purple is DISGUSTING! (http://signcasts.com/node/260)

First Viable was caught because they were a small company, but the investigation of Purple started in April! Viable was easier to caught, and Purple is a bigger company certified by the FCC so it took longer and now the curtain is down and Purple is busted! Their executive team knew about this since April, and did not share with their employees until recently!! Think about it...

Viable:

July did not pay employees because FCC froze their funds
August, merger with SNAP that saved their asses and paid employees
November 18th: Arrested their executive team

Now Purple:

March: FCC Froze their funds, soon laid off employees
April: Will merger? Probably not, they owe 40 million dollars, who can afford except Sorenson??
July: Arrest Dan Luis, Kelby Brick, and other executive team members for forcing conference calls???

It is same timeline, nothing is different than Viable. Blame anyone you want but the Purple Executive team KNEW that what they were doing is illegal and wrong!!! What is the difference between Viable and Purple when FCC froze Viable's fund in July and Viable can't pay their workers?? NOTHING! Don't feel sorry for Purple and its rich excecutive team, they have a boat, have many big parties, and spend their money on alcohol for their staff! You should feel sorry for deaf workers who suffered by working at datastar, or deaf workers who were stupid to listen to their bosses and spend many hours on conference call everyday instead of doing REAL work! Purple has good interpreters and good technology, well so did Viable, VPAD is better than MVP anyways and still Viable was greedy just like Purple was greedy. This is a sad day for all the people who were greedy, and a sad day for all the people who will lose their jobs. But to keep Purple open and allow them to continue their dirty business, now that's an even SADDER day! The FCC is doing the right thing, and next up is ZVRS with their BS program to pay organizations for their sponsorships (like tsdvrs.tv). Many people have reported on Purple to DOJ, don't be blind!

  4. Purple contract DataStar for for? Subcontract hide real purpose DataStar build more money minutes for Purple? FCC know relatoinship of datastar and purple?

  5. Would like to talk to you more off line any how I can contact you off line? to protect our names

  6. Clearblue pays organizations for their minutes! It is just another way of paying people to make calls, but instead of paying individual, they pay organization which is illegal. It is the same thing as pumping up minutes!

  7. DOJ have investigated Purple and there are no wrongdoings. There will be no arrests, Purple is not Viable. Sorenson paid back at least $25 millions, ZVRS will pay back several millions. FCC will investigate more with any VRS provider that have any exclusive contracts with any agency, school, company, etc.

Purple will be able to pay back, if FCC and Purple can make an agreement on the payment. Purple do not have $18 millions to cover and need to work with lenders to continue the operation.

To define the term, "misuse" does not mean that any provider did any illegal, but to take the responsibility to pay back.

    ReplyDelete
  8. I can't wait to see Purple go! I am looking forward to see bye bye purple!

    ReplyDelete
  9. Misuse do not mean any provider did anything legal. Providers being asked to return money show actions not legal.

  10. You said Kelby Brick was arrested in July? Are you kidding? He was on DeafRead last week.

  12. I think if you watch Jerry Nelson, he explains this well. Datastar through their hearing and deaf individuals put up on websites a "button" for deaf/hh ppl to use text relay to use that websites services. Seems simple to me and a great idea. Deaf ppl do not have access to so many things. Some do not know how to sign.

Looks like Datastar tried to give deaf ppl jobs too - this is wonderful. Datastar major contract was for medical (ppl over 60) to purchase medicade medicine. Deaf employees help them. What a wonderful opportunities for deaf to help them.

  13. Sorenson has 1 million minutes a month of deaf working in jobs where they're responsibility is to call thru VRS. So this mean if deaf person has job, they can't use VRS? Does this mean ADA is dead? We have a right to work!

  14. So, you don't really like Purple? Your weblog named "PurpleDead", I find it odd.

  15. Sigh… as a former Purple employee who was recently laid-off, i just want to let folks know that my final paycheck bounced today due to “insufficient funds”. Great. Just great. That means 2 wks worth of work for FREE. If that’s not an indication that Purple is shutting down, I don’t know what is. Purple employees who are currently working, I suggest you request all future payment in CASH. Otherwise, you will never see it! Purple execs should seriously burn in hell for all of their shady shannanigans! And now it looks like the big boys are taking the money and running. Purple bastards. I hope the FCC gets a hold of you by your tender parts and practice some heinous corporal punishment medieval-style on your shitty purple asses!!

    ReplyDelete
  16. Wow Purple hater must be ex employee and got fired or something. I use all vrs companies and find Purple and Convo really the best. Sorenson is ok, but to HATE any one service company is really sick...and maybe Purple Hater needs to get a life, or some psycho help.

    ReplyDelete
  17. It is really bad timing that you put the check recently because the bank is not allowing Purple to take out of the money due to credit or loans being in defaulted so basically everything is frozen. You should contact Purple to re-issue you a new check next week.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Why would next week make any difference? Purple owes the bank $48 million on top of the $19 million they owe the FCC. There won’t be any new checks. Unfortunately, Purple employees have probably seen their last dime from the company.
First CRM goes down, then paychecks bounce, then call center employees were told to go home early yesterday…doesn’t look good, folks.

    ReplyDelete
  19. I call BS on the CRM going down and check bouncing, PERIOD. Check CRM for yourself if you're a rep!

Just looking to stir some drama and smear Purple!

    Golly, some people!

  20. I'm a current Purple outreach representative, still under contract. I think it's sad that Purple has come down this way. I guess the end emerged to me when the MVP was showing clear signs of never meeting its potential. I got a 3rd job recently to replace Purple (Purple was my secondary job), and I'm glad I did. There's just too much corruption and ineptitude for the company to continue as it is.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Please get your facts straight. Purple isn't dead YET. Snap did NOT merge with Viable. They only have management of Viable. Don't be one of those foolish people spreading rumors - if you don't know something for sure, don't write about it. If you're not a part of the solution, then you're a part of the problem. Sorry but that's how it goes. Think about this - if Purple falls... their customers will lose their VRS services and have to find another provider. Government contracts for sign language interpreters will be torn up. Purple has other services that will be affected. Please do me a favor... if not me, then the world... Don't assume. I hope for your sake you know the saying about assumptions... they're the mother of all f**k-ups.

  22. Anon 6:36 AM

Data Star generate minutes for Purple by paying Deaf employees call other people. Then they bill FCC to pay them $$ for minutes they make up. Stealing money! That why FCC demand money back!

Deaf and hearing workers not supposed make fake calls for $$. Now Purple hurt Deaf community and Deaf and Hearing workers and government workers. You ask us to feel sorry for Purple? For For? Breaking the law and stealing money?? Shame on Purple!

    Shame on Sorenson!

    Shame on ZVRS!

Shame on other VRS companies! I hope they all go to jail!

  24. To the person who said Shame on.....

Sounds like you don't use VRS? How do you make your calls to hearing people? By using text relay? And I am curious which VP or software on your computer (if any) do you use when calling your deaf friends?

    ReplyDelete
  25. Anon 12:34 PM It sound you work VRS? You approve theft dishonest?

    ReplyDelete
  26. The entire VRS industry is rife with fraud. There is not one single VRS provider that didn't pump up their minutes fraudulently. The interpreters who were processing the calls knew what was happening, too. They should lose their certification from RID. When you agree by your actions to commit a fraud, it is called conspiracy. The interpreters and deaf people who are/were doing this should go to jail. For example, if I have an exclusive contract with the local hospital to interpret, is it okay if I hit deaf people with baseball bats to they go to the hospital so I get more interpreting? Or, if I order my employee to hit deaf people so I get more work? Then both the employee and I did wrong. Do not let any of the VRS companies play with your feelings about poor deaf people or poor interpreters. Rot in hell for ruining the industry and hurting the reputation of all interpreters. Further SHAME SHAME SHAME on RID - look at RID.org, it says NOTHING about this at all. Stand up for ethics. HOW SAD!

  31. I am not a Purple Hater, Or a former employee, or VRS user, but I can tell you I find these VRS services evil and greedy, and have ripped off so many deaf people, I know several friends who are still waiting for a product from VIABLE and also PURPLE, both of these companies did every thing they could to rip off the deaf senior citzens in las vegas, many of them paid for those products in good faith, and Viable and Purple, pocketed the money.
Now who is next ??The infamous Z team??? They seem to spend alot of time at pizza parties and drinking wine and it makes me wonder how much of the money that was used for these "team building parties "belongs to deaf people who have purchased those over priced machines and services ???
How sad is this??? the deaf stealing from the deaf ??? It is a never ending and vicious cycle.

  40. Please get along well with different business.
No more fights each other to those Sorenson, Purple, Z4, Z340, Ojo, Cdvs, Viable, also Snapvs. Keep running to get along together. Like Verizon, At&t, Sprint, Cricket, etc. Keep peace. Customers have their rights to select it. Gotta it that!!!

  41. The person at Purple who dreamed up the idea of the conference calls was let go some time ago.. Unfortunetly Purple is left to deal with the mess this person created. The FCC is demanding payment, but at the same time is not paying purple the millions it owes them from the valid minutes billed to the FCC.

  45. LOL this is probably the worst blog I've read in my entire life. You never backed up your blog with any facts. I work for Purple and I know what is going on. Like a poster above said, Purple never filed for bankruptcy. They filed appeals to fight for what they think is right. Currently, FCC and Purple are working on reaching an agreement which would allow Purple to resume its operation. I've heard NOTHING about Purple filing for bankruptcy.

To that person who wrote this blog, please show me any proof that Purple is filing for bankruptcy. Show me any articles or anything. I bet you have nothing so why should people believe you?

It's true that we had conference calls back then but when FCC didn't permit it anymore, we stopped having conference calls. It shows that Purple is willing to comply with FCC's rules and regulations. The problem is that FCC didn't clarify their rules and regulations to Purple until February 25, 2010. All of a sudden, they decided to force Purple to pay back. Does that sound fair? I don't think so.

I don't know exactly what's going on behind the scene. Maybe there are some things that we don't know about Purple and FCC. I don't know really but I know what I said is based on facts completely, not some made up shit.

Please learn the facts before you say stuff that doesn't make any sense at all.

Why don't you deaf people go online and look at valid sources like newspaper articles or government websites? Their information on Purple and FCC are accurate. 60. Freedom of speech does not apply to libel, slander and defamation.

Generally speaking, defamation is the issuance of a false statement about another person, which causes that person to suffer harm. Slander involves the making of defamatory statements by a transitory (non-fixed) representation, usually an oral (spoken) representation. Libel involves the making of defamatory statements in a printed or fixed medium, such as a magazine or newspaper.

Any falsefiers, liars and fear mongers CAN get sued in United States.
I can't think of a cheapskate and trashy magazine got sued for defamation by an actor and was forced the publishing company to pay out punitive damages.

Qwerty, if Purple Communications decides to sue you because of their brand and reputation got harmed on your libel and slander. Please be prepared to defend yourself.

  66. Purple is not doing GREAT. They are barely surviving right now. They have already laid off many employees and have even laid off a few more this very week (two of my friends, for sure). They still owe the government ALOT of money. The P-3 is having alot of problems; many people have stopped using them. From what I've heard from an inside source, Purple is also in breach with their contract with Dell (whose computers they use for P3s).

  70. Deaf need equal access to communications. They shouldn't have their contact list cleansed if they change providers. If they use a differnet provider, callerID should still work. All the services that hearing use like call waiting, caller ID, voicemail, 10d portability. VP should interoperate whether SIP or H.323. Purple tried to accomplish all these goals.

    ReplyDelete
  71. Purple as a whole is one hot mess.

I am a former employee who previously had access to the inner workings of the company on an Executive level.

Purple was under investigation by the FCC, the Department of Justice and the SEC. They were cited for filing INACCURATE quarterly reports with the SEC. They had employees who would make bogus calls from call centers to boost billable minutes. I've seen the documents reporting these incidences with my own eyes. Executives there are complete bufoons. They argue amongst themselves, with management and Board Members like a bunch of children. People were losing their jobs, the company was hemmoraging money (over a $1,000,000.00 spent on outside legal counsel alone in June of 2009) and one Executive team member was taking limo/car service 3 days a week, every week between the south bay area, north bay area and Rocklin and charging personal expenses to the company. They hired and fired a President in just 6 months. They had EXTREMLY shady dealings with Datastar due to a former President who had personal ties with Datastar and profiting directly from that business relationship.

When they moved out of thier offices in Novato, they basically just walked away from thier lease, leaving hundreds of thousands of dollars in construction debt and unpaid rent to Fireman's Fund.

I have never in my life worked for a more poorly managed company.

I hope they go out of business. They are nothing but a bunch of shady crooks.
